VPN for Netflix

Last updated: May 18, 2021

Netflix is still one of the most used streaming services in the world. “Netflix & Chill” has become a catchphrase, and it’s hard to imagine a modern living room without it being available on the TV. Even the older generations are discovering the streaming provider from the US. With an inexpensive monthly subscription, you get access to a gigantic film archive.

Netflix is not only offering thousands of well known movies and series, they’re also producing many popular shows and motion pictures by themselves, and the trend is rising. These are then, of course, exclusive to Netflix.

Netflix country restrictions

That all sounds great, but what’s the catch? Numerous popular and countless lesser-known titles are not available on Netflix in your country. This is due to exclusive rights that have often been leased by the competition, primarily Amazon Prime.

But don’t worry, other streaming services don’t have a perfect assortment either. It is therefore a good reason to use a trick to unlock foreign motion pictures you’d otherwise have missed in the U.S. or your home country.

How to unlock Netflix titles

You are missing something on your Netflix library but you know it should be there? Then it might have been blocked to your country. This is called Geoblocking and can be tricked. Here’s how:

  • Find out in which country your desired title is available on Netflix
  • Get a VPN account (we recommend NordVPN for Netflix)
  • Download the VPN App for your device
  • Use your credentials to login
  • Connect to the country your desired movie or series is available in
  • Open Netflix, log in and search for it (or click a link that should work)
  • You should now be able to watch!

If you are still experiencing problems, Netflix might have banned the IP from the VPN-server you are using. But that’s not the end: just try another server. If the problem still occurs, you might want to use another VPN service or choose the feature “use ofuscated servers” that is offered in some VPN services such as NordVPN. This will cloak your VPN connection so that it seems normal to the websites and services – such as Netflix – you are using. It is much more difficult to recognize and should work well for watching Netflix contents.

Which VPN is the best for Netflix

In our test, we had great results with NordVPN. Not on every device though. Some devices such as TVs may use different VPN protocols that are not working for Netflix. In this case we recommend to use a laptop and connect it to your TV via HDMI or try another VPN provider.

Most VPNs offer a 30-days money-back-guarantee or a free trial you can use to test.
